My submission for the Character Design Challenge design prompt, Dragon Riders.
I wanted to explore an alternate time period to what we typically see dragons depicted in, specifically the ways dragons would be seen and interacted with in late 1800s America.
The idea of using dragons instead of horses for the Pony Express was something that really jumped out at me. While the real Pony Express only lasted for 19 months after becoming obsolete with the creation of the Pacific Railroad, the idea of this ancient mythological creature conflicting with the machine age was really fascinating.
An exercise in building characters through silhouette, Barkin’ Irons is a personal project centered around a world of cowboys, bandits & robots.
